Family Getaway

This residence was designed to fit a narrow but deep lot. The family had an old cabin on the property. After looking at ideas to add on to the cabin, the decision was made to remove the cabin and start from scratch.

The design reflects the desire for the extended family to be able to gather for special occasions, as well as for the retired owners to have a place to enjoy by themselves.

Due to the forested lot, passive solar was not a viable option. Windows let in natural daylight and open the interior up to the forest views. An exterior insulation wrap provides added thermal resistance as well as reducing thermal bridging.

Materials used in construction include wood framed construction with thermal break/energy saving insulation wrap. Exterior materials mix natural wood and stone towards the public street. The private sides and rear use stucco and metal siding for aesthetics and durability.
